An experiment on the Musical reproduction of Bean Beetles Essay Example For Students
An experiment on the Musical reproduction of Bean Beetles Essay High pitch noises and loud sound deterrents have been the weapon for many super markets and militaries, both domestic and foreign, around the world. The Mosquito developed in 2005 (Campbell, 2008), is marketed as a teen deterrent. It emits a high frequency pitch that only people from age 14-25 can hear. Shopkeepers place it outside their places of business in order to discourage young teens from loitering in from of their shops. It has become a subject of The Long Range Acoustic Device (LARD) used as a communication hailing device is now being developed to alp ship operators and navel captains as a non-lethal weapon against pirates and boarding parties. The loud and concentrated sonic weapons are pointed at the assailants in an effort to drive them away from ships. The devices are also being used domestically to disperse large unwanted crowds and riots. Carding, 2005) Our experiment is intended to use this information to see if we can impact the reproduction process of the bean beetle. We hypothesize that sound waves will have a negative impact on the amount of eggs produced by a group of bean beetles. Materials and Methods Black eyed peas will be used as sustenance for the impregnated beetles to lay their eggs on. A small plastic container will be used to place three males and three females together. We will use six total groups. Three groups of beetles will be used as a control. They will be sat in an UN-modified habitat that will synthesize their natural habitat. The other three groups will be put in a similar habitat with an added stimulus. The added stimulus will be a set of headphones connected to an MPH playback device playing music group The Beetles greatest hit album. The experiment will take one week. The hypothesis for our experiment is that the vibration of the sound waves will affect the beetles social habits and might make them more or less reproductive. Results The amount of eggs present in each group averaged 9. 3 eggs per container in the control group.

Macbeth Creative Eulogy Essays - Characters In Macbeth,
Macbeth Creative Eulogy Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to honour a man who was amazing in so many ways. You may have known him since birth, as I have, or you may have only known him a brief time, but in any case, he touched your life. He touched many lives, some with his valiant courage and love, some with his kitchen knives. Although our dear friend Macbeth has passed from this world to the next, there is still much to be learned from him. He always had a kind word for me, and although he was bit intense he was a very special man. His face could have entranced the sirens themselves: such was his beauty and grace. He charmed friends and strangers alike with his wit and warmth. His courage and strength made him a unique man for certain. During battle, he would never lose sight of our goal. He played a key role in the defeat of the Norwegians and served his nation well. Even when he was killing the traitorous Thane of Cawdor, his pain was plainly etched in his face; killing another man was a hardship for this great soul. Such compassion is so rare during wartime. When I had the good fortune to be by his side in battle, he always filled my heart with courage and admiration. Ive known Macbeth since his early years, and he has always shown compassion and understanding beyond that of any other man I know. During his childhood years, he always displayed a rampant ambition, and a kindness rare among young men. His friendship was something to be treasured. Our many days spent together are some of my fondest memories, and the loss of such days fill me with profound sadness and grief. When Macbeth was introduced to his late wife, there was a spark between them Ive never seen before. Macbeth treated his conquest with such respect and delicacy, she couldnt have refused his proposal. They had a very close marriage, and it was filled with love and warmth. It was the kind of union every man hopes hell be blessed with in his lifetime. Lady Macbeth once told me that her husband was the most caring man shed ever met. I believe that prior to Macbeths troubles and strife, that he and his wife had a very healthy relationship. When his wifes mental health was beginning to fail, he could not bear to watch his beloved deteriorate. In the end perhaps it was best that they not go on in life without the other. Their love was deep and beautiful, even if it was incomprehensible at times. I have always modeled myself after this outstanding man, thane, husband and friend. His courage was infinite and his love was boundless. Many may say he was nothing more than a traitor to his King, but I say he was so much more. Look beyond his actions in the later period of his life, and see the man beneath the stony exterior. I beg you to look back at his early years, the years of life filled with joy and love. He was at good man at heart, and although later on life he displayed a darker side, one that even I can not totally dismiss, he was not evil. He cared deeply for his friends and family. In truth, he was just a man, like you or I. He was a man whose circumstances and ambition helped decide his ultimate fate. Even if you abhor his actions, as I do, you can still admire his commitment to his ambitions. He may have killed in cold blood to attain these dreams, but who of us has not considered the thought, even if fleetingly. Perhaps he went too far, but he did go. Many of us will spend our entire lives dreaming, not doing. Please remember that he was nothing more than a human being, with human talents and human faults. Judge his life not by its end, but consider his talents and faults, for even I If Macbeth lacked limits, he was more free than any of us will ever be. Bibliography Shakespeare, William. Macbeth. Capital Offence - Emphasis
Capital Offence Capital Offence In our latest tips e-bulletin, we covered the ever-sticky topic of e-rage: that near-universal condition whereby one is brought to a state of apoplexy by the particulars of an arrangement of pixels in ones inbox. The question of email etiquette can be a tricky one, with an almost endless list of personal bugbears. The message may be too long, too short, poorly spelled, too chatty, overly formal; it could be heavy with jargon or decorated with emoticons; it could have been forwarded ad nauseum, or else carry no clue to the messages history whatsoever. However, the one thing that carries the greatest consensus as an e-no-no is: USING ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Apparently this practice can lose you more than just friends at the water cooler it can lose you your job. An accountant in Auckland was fired for sending an email to her associates advising them on how to fill in claim forms. She stands accused by her former employers of spreading disharmony among the staff. Not, presumably, for providing guidance on the most efficient way for them to supplement their salaries, but for doing so in bold, in red and of course in CAPITAL LETTERS. No doubt this woman was merely trying to emphasise what she saw as crucial information. She has since been rewarded compensation for unfair dismissal, and one might be forgiven for calling her former colleagues ungrateful. But it leaves one message abundantly clear: we HATE capitals. Why? Opinions vary. The biggest one is the sense of being SHOUTED AT. Wading through our daily barrage of emails can be trying enough, without such an ocular pummelling. Using all capital letters is heavy on the eye, as the lack of differentiation in height and shape (as seen in lowercase) makes blocks of such text harder to read. It can also smack of laziness, even ignorance, on the part of the writer in a similar way to using all lowercase (know what i mean?). Perhaps the perpetrators colleagues took offence at her refusal to work with the shift key.

Comparative politics wk2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Comparative politics wk2 - Essay Example Since Vladimir Putin orchestrated the consolidation in 1999, the problems of centralized power continue to haunt the society as the political, geographic, and economic powers among others continue to reside in wealthy individuals close to the leadership (World Savvy Monitor, 2008). The over centralization and some policies enacted, deny freedom not only to the citizens, but also to the foreigners. It is always difficult for people to exercise competition, within areas where democracy is not fully embraced. The power of democracy links electoral result as means of instigating political parties and strengthening competition. During president Putinââ¬â¢s era, several reforms in the Electoral body took place, which have limited political competition. According to Shishlov (2004), ââ¬Å"the December 2002 law on elections of state Duma Deputies shortened campaign period, limited the conditions under which candidates could be removed from the ballot, imposed restriction on media coverage and expanded the Central Election Commissionââ¬â¢s Authority over subordinate regional elections commission.â⬠The political system of the Russian federation is centralized giving the few (president, prime minister, federal assembly, and the multiparty political system) concentrated power to exercise control over the resources and the society. Through this, the president uses his power t o appoint important government postings to groups of elites loyal to the Kremlin, 75 percent coming from the Russian security forces to serve in the Russian corporate sector higher ranks (World Savvy Monitor, 2008). Often, the appointed individuals serve as state machineries and various functions of different departments have been altered by the centralized power, to act as administrative instruments. According to Shishlov, ââ¬Å"single centre of power controls everything; the media, the secret services, business, the courts, parliament and the electionsââ¬

A Study on the Apostolic Creed Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
A Study on the Apostolic Creed - Essay Example But what is difficult for us to understand is this Powerful Being; whose powers we can barely even begin to comprehend actually personally cares about us. Even David asks Him, ââ¬Å"what is man that You care about him so muchâ⬠. We know that God cares about us and protects us. Our Parents take care of us and protect us. Our Mother nurtures us. Our Father protects us and guides us. For me that is the most natural way to look at God, as a Father. And the reason for that is not to assign him male attributes, because he is beyond that but because I see in Him somebody who cares and protects me, but also gives order and meaning to my life. And this in no way means that I consider a Motherââ¬â¢s role secondary in a family , because it is not but because the Father is the Head of the household and you can trust Him to take care of it. Many religions and many individuals have a very private approach to religion. In these readings you will find that there is an underlying communal approach found in the Catholic Church. From what you have read, why do you think Catholics emphasize communal religion and/or which reason do you find most satisfying for this approach even if it is not your personal style. The Catholic Church stresses the communal dimension of all the sacraments, seeing them as "community events," not private rituals.2 The reason for that I think is that for many years and even perhaps centuries , the church seemed a distant organization which the Church Parish had to observe as spectators. That is actually quite ironic considering that crucification of Jesus Christ the Curtain separating the Tabernacle from the people was torn in half since now there was nothing separating man and God. The communal nature of the Catholic Church involves everybody in the Church Parish and in many ways takes the Church to them and so it is something personal to them. Experience and response is the focal point of these readings. What was the most unique experience Christians had of Christ (according to The Creed) and what are some of the ways they responded The unique experience which Christians had of Christ was that By his Revelation, the invisible God, from the fullness of his love, addressed men as his friends, and moved among them, in order to invite and receive them into His company. When the Lord of the Universe comes down among us and extends an Invitation to us, the only thing we can do is accept it. And that is what the Christians did by faith and belief.3 The Faith was to God , but the belief was twofold , it was to the Truth and to the Person who was witness to the truth. Teilhard de Chardin has a very mystical view of creation and our participation in it. What are two or three of the most interesting things he has to say about this relationship and what do you think they mean. Teilhard de Chardin thinks that creation was not one act at one moment but is a continuous event. And indeed that is way it makes most sense theologically. We know on a personal level that God deeply cares about us and knows the smallest thing which effects us. But at the same time we want to say the He created this Universe long ago in one instant and then left it alone. Creation is not an event but is something which is continuous and indeed continues even now. Our limited understanding perhaps required this to be a linear event. But God is beyond time and space. And that is why this apparent argument between Religion and
